Holy Family is a Gifted Education Lead School in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. Our focus is on identifying gifted learners and assisting with the process of developing talent by providing specific opportunities for learning, training and practise. We have high expectations for all students, with an increased focus on gifted learners and their needs.
Our school’s Gifted Education Mentor (GEM) and Gifted Education Committee, assist teachers with collating and analysing data, identifying strengths and needs of students, as well as providing appropriate strategies to meet their individual needs. Differentiation of all learning experiences is expected in all classrooms to ensure all students are catered for. We encourage students to implement SMART goals as part of their learning, which further allows our students an opportunity to discuss and develop their understanding of what they know and what they need to learn in order to evolve their critical thinking skills and promote comprehension of the direction their learning is taking.
Gifted Education is a priority within our Diocese and is providing exciting opportunities for students in our school. It is further promoting integral professional development opportunities for teaching staff to attend and we, as a community, look forward to working with all the schools in the Diocese during this exciting era of learning.
Our GEM provides opportunity for students to developing skills and strategies when completing open-ended investigations that rely on students being able to adequately implement knowledge in a deeper, critical way.
